So what, Scholastic?

Camilla has two moms....

And so what? Well, Scholastic sure doesn't approve. They've said they don't want Lauren Myracle's new book in their book fairs because Camilla, one of the main characters in the book, has two moms. What kind of message does this send out to kids who have two moms or two dads? That they aren't normal. And they are.
A whole bunch of people agree on this. They support Lauren. Some people have even canceled visits from Scholastic to their school because of this. And they shouldn't regret it. I know I accept same-sex parents, and I think everyone should.
One quote that someone wrote to Lauren:
"The problem is not that [certain subject matter] is too difficult for children, but that it's too difficult for grown ups."

Yahooties! Happy dancing time!

Luv Ya Bunches: By Lauren Myracle

So, at last, Luv Ya Bunches is out! Wh-hoo! It's arriving on Christmas, along with my Grandma! :) Vair cool! I haven't read it yet, so I can't really judge it.. But here's a summary on it!:

What do Katie-Rose, Yasaman, Milla, and Violet all have in common? Other than being named after flowers, practically nothing. Katie-Rose is a film director in training. Yasaman is a computer whiz. Milla is third in command of the A list. And Violet is the new girl in school. They’re fab girls, all of them, but they sure aren’t friends. And if evil queen bee Medusa— ’scuse me, Modessa—has her way, they never will be. But this is the beginning of a new school year, when anything can happen and social worlds can collide . . .
Told in Lauren Myracle’s inventive narrative style—here a fresh mix of instant messages, blog posts, screenplay, and straight narrative—Luv Ya Bunches, the first in a four-book series, is a funny, honest depiction of the shifting alliances and rivalries that shape school days, and of the lasting friendships that blossom from the skirmishes.

Doesn't it look fantastico!? I just... Can't wait! :)

Now, skiddidle! Shoo! Go get the book!

A Great and Terrible Beauty Triology

A Great and Terrible Beauty: By Libba Bray

It's 1895 and, after the death of her mother, 16-year-old Gemma Doyle is shipped off from the life she knows in India to Spence, a proper boarding school in England. Lonely, guilt-ridden, and prone to visions of the future that have an uncomfortable habit of coming true, Gemma finds her reception a chilly one. She's not completely alone, though... she's being followed by a mysterious young man, sent to warn her to close her mind against the visions.

It's at Spence that Gemma's power to attract the supernatural unfolds, as she becomes entangled with the school's most powerful girls and discovers her mother's connection to a shadowy, timeless group called The Order. Her destiny awaits... if only Gemma could believe in it.

Rebel Angels: By Libba Bray

It's the end of the year, and Gemma is looking forward to living it up in London. Balls, fancy gowns, and dancing with the Simon Middleton beckon. Best of all, it's time away from Spence Academy- and from the Realms.

But the lure of the enchanted world is strong, and the magic flows freely. Gemma's visions intensify- visions of three girls dressed in white, suffering horror and menace. Clearly all is not well in the Realms- or out of them.

Set against the rich backdrop of Victorian London, a place of shadows and light, in a time of strict morality and barely repressed sensuality, this compelling gothic sequel  reveals that inside great beauty can lie a rebel angel...

The Sweet Far Thing: By Libba Bray

It has been a year of change since Gemma Doyle arrived at the foreboding Spence Academy. Her mother murdered, her father alaudanum addict, Gemma has relied on an unsuspected strength and has discovered an ability to travel to an enchanted world called the realms, where dark magic runs wild. Despite certain peril, Gemma has bound the magic to herself and forged unlikely new alliances. Now, as Gemma approaches her London debut, the time has come to test these bonds.

The Order—the mysterious group her mother was once part of—is grappling for control of the realms, as is the Rakshana. Spence's burned East Wing is being rebuilt, but why now? Gemma and her friends see Pippa, but she is not the same. And their friendship faces its gravest trial as Gemma must decide once and for all what role she is meant for.

The Merrybegot

The Merrybegot: By Julie Hearn

Spring 1645-

In a remote west-country village, all is not what it seems. The minister's daughters have taken to their bed, howling and spitting pins. Rumours of bad magic and ill-wishing are spreading fast- and fingers are pointing at Nell, the cunning woman's granddaughter.

With Matthew Hopkins, the Witch-Finder General, on his way, Nell is alone, trapped, and in mortal danger. Who can she trust? Who will save her?

Summer 1692-

Patience Madden, the minister's young daughter, has a confession to make. A confession that shows another side to what happened to her sister, Grace, and the cunning woman's granddaughter, half a century before.

But why is her story different- full of sudden gaps and errors? Is her memory failing her?
Or is she just being clever... very clever?

An awesome book, perfect for reading before bed. I promise you'll enjoy it.

Guitar Girl

Guitar Girl: By Sarra Manning
Rating: * * * *

17 -year-old Molly Montgomery never planned on becoming famous. Molly's band, The Hormones, was just supposed to be about mucking around with her best mates, Jane and Tara; writing songs about Hello Kitty; and being a girl. But when the group is joined by the deliciously dangerous Dean and his friend T, things onstage- and backstage- start happening, fast. The Hormones are front-page news, and their debut album is rocketing up the charts.
Molly is the force behind the band, but the hazards of fame, first love, screaming fans, and sleazy managers are forcing the newly crowned teen queen grrl angst close to the edge. Fame never comes for free, and Molly's about to find out what it costs.

Guitar Girl's a total page turner, a great book for lying down in bed with, and reading all day! You wont be able to close the book until you're finished. Hope you enjoy it!
